This is the go-to straight-edge woodcutter. The wedge design is optimized for routing in wood and wood composite. This cutter is especially effective in MDF and plywood. Because there is no upward pull, problems like blow-out can be avoided. These tools will create fewer splinters in fibrous woods like cedar. This is also a good alternative to down spirals. Often a down spiral will push chips back into the cut (minimizing how deep you can rout). At the right chip load this tool will throw out the chips efficiently enough for you to be able to rout at standard depths. Compare this tool to the Onsrud 52-200 series.
